Participation Inequality Rule / Regla de participación desigual

Mr. Nielsen (the usability guru, in case someone doesn't know yet who he is) states that in online communities user participation often (more or less) follows a 90-9-1 rule:

- 90% of users are lurkers (i.e., read or observe, but don't contribute).
- 9% of users contribute from time to time, but other priorities dominate their time.
- 1% of users participate a lot and account for most contributions: it can seem as if they don't have lives because they often post just minutes after whatever event they're commenting on occurs. (useit.com)

Considering that this blog doesn't have any users of the latter one, I would say that I have a 98-2-0 rule :-) and the funny thing comes when he asks: "How to Overcome Participation Inequality?" and the answer is: "You can't." Simply devastating.

Please lurkers... can you just write a small comment?? something like "Hello, I was here"? It would mean a lot to me :-D

Hey! I'm afraid I can't stop being a lucker. But FYI I have only published 2 comment in a blog in my whole life...and the blog is "somosunoenholanda"!!! so you can considered yourself very fortunate. I'll do my best to enter the second category (9%)soon :)

tnarik - I was wondering who was going to be the first one writing down that ;-) In fact you're becoming my 1% (but with a complete and satisfactory life). I have nothing to say but a big THANK YOU. We can celebrate it this weekend in Amsterdam! hehe.

césar - the trendy slogan now is "yes we can", didn't you know that? :-) Anyway, we sow what we reap and the blogosphere is based on solidarity and interaction, leading to a mutual enrichment. "Suit yourself", as my friend Ed'son would say.

dan - sweetheart, you made me blush!! There is of course a special category for you: the "soulmate" category. Do you like it? ;-) And we-are-one, so my posts are your posts. "Mi casa es su casa" ;-P

marian - thank God you wrote "lucker" and not "fu..." hahaha. From all of my "lurkers" I think you are the one with the most credible excuse (I know). Anyhow it's good that you are willing to be more active. I hope you can make it. I love you, little grasshopper ;-)

fnieto - you, so original! You were the only one allowed to have a micro-blog in my blog! you owe me some respect!!! ;-P Now, seriously... I miss you and I hope you are more relaxed at work. Kiss.

Anónimo dijo...

By writing this comment I stop being a lurker... snif! :-(

SuperPi dijo...

barbarlarga - but you take advantage of the interactivity offered by the internet. You also get a nice answer from me... what could be better than that? :-D
