I am lucky / Tengo suerte

I am a lucky girl, I know. This man never ceases to amaze me. Daniel is the official cook, lately. I am so busy with my assignments and so that he is becoming a great cook. The other day, when he said "dinner is ready!" I went downstairs and I found this (see photo!!!). When I saw it I was laughing for almost 30 minutes. This man is adorable. God bless Mexico!!!

Soy una chica afortunada, lo sé. Dani no deja nunca de sorprenderme. Últimamente él es el cocinero oficial... como estoy tan ocupada con la Universidad y eso, él se está volviendo todo un experto. El caso es que cuando el otro día me dijo "a cenaaar", me encontré con esto (¡ver foto!). Estuve como media hora riéndome. Adorable. ¡¡¡Dios bendiga México!!!

Back from Spain / De vuelta de España

Yes, we have been in Spain for 2 (stressful) weeks. You might think that for me Spain means holidays but the truth is that Spain means stress and The Netherlands is holidays :-) at least regarding Madrid. When I go in summer and do a short trip to the beach then is different. Life in The Netherlands is quieter, calmer... even despite University and Daniel's job.

Things we did in Spain:

• A lot of family dinners, and I really mean "a lot", and a lot of food too. I managed to gather all my familiy together inviting them at Cherry's new restaurant La Despensa de Ibiza. Nice place, nice food, nice atmosphere! (See photo and check out the gorgeous bar-tender)
  
• Vicka, my classmate at Utrecht University, joined us from the 23rd to 29th. She spent her first day there with our friend Maxi and he did an excelent job as a tourist guide! During the following days we visited Segovia (with my friend Lupe and her family), Toledo... and also Zara and Mango outlets :-) (It seems that Zara is a luxury firm in Indonesia... but in Spain it is not).
• On Christmas evening Daniel surprised me with an invitation to the theater (he invited some other friends too), a Gospel concert!!! I love choral music so I was almost crying touchingly. Well... not almost, I am a sensitive girl!
  
• Ricardo & Ruth invited us to their Christmas fever party :-) It was amazing, although I was so tired of walking through Toledo's slopes that I ended up sleeping (with some sweet and lovely little snoring) in their sofa.
• An offroad adventure with my brother's car: Jeep Grand Cherokee. As we have our Sorento here we didn't enjoyed an offroad route since our Moroccan adventure in Summer 2006.
  
• Also a visit to our friends Almudena and Luis who have triplets! I didn't have too much maternal instinct but after that visit it is reduced to 0%.
• On the 4th we went to the theater again to see Tricicle new show. I laughed out loud with their former shows "Terrific" and "Sit", but this last one "Garrick" didn't have as intelligent humour as the previous ones.
• On the 5th we gave up travelling to Salamanca because I had some presents to buy for the Twelft Night. We delivered our presents and we flight back to the Netherlands on the 6th (with my beloved acoustic guitar that I don't play since my teen years)
  

Sí, hemos estado en España por dos (estresantes) semanas. Pensaréis que para mí España es sinónimo de vacaciones pero no, Holanda son las vacaciones. Al menos en lo que se refiere a Madrid... ya ir a la playita en verano es otra cosa. Nuestra vida en holanda es más calmada y tranquila, incluso a pesar de la universidad y el trabajo de Dani.

Cosas que hemos hecho en España:

• Un montón de cenas y comidas familiares, un montón y con mucha comida. Invité a toda mi familia en La Despensa de Ibiza, el nuevo y bonito restaurante de Cherry. (Mirad la foto y al guapísimo camarero).
  
• Vicka, mi compi de la Universidad, también vino del 23 al 29. El primer día Maxi hizo de excelente guía por Madrid. Luego nosotros fuimos con ella ver Segovia (con Lupe y su familia), Toledo... y también los outlets de Zara y Mango :-) (parece ser que Zara es una firma de lujo en Indonesia, pero desde luego en España no).
  
• En la tarde de Navidad Dani me sorprendió (a mí y a unos cuántos amigos más) con una invitación al teatro, a un concierto de Gospel. Me encantó y casi lloro de la emoción... bueno no casi, soy "mu" sensible.
  
• Ricardo y Ruth nos invitaron a su "Christmas fever party" y nos lo pasamos genial aunque yo terminé dormida al final de la noche en su sofá, con unos suaves y dulces ronquiditos.
  
• Hicimos una bonita ruta 4*4 por Guadalajara con el Cherokee de mi hermano Luis. Como el Sorento está en Holanda no habíamos hecho rutas casi desde la aventura de Marruecos en 2006.
  
• Visitamos también a nuestros amigos Luis y Almudena que ¡tienen trillizos! Si ya tenía poco instinto maternal antes, ahora está reducido al 0%.
  
• El día 4 fuimos al teatro a ver a Tricicle. Me encantaron "Terrific" y "Sit", pero este último show "Garrick" aunque ha estado bien no tenía el humor inteligente de los anteriores.
  
• El día 5 teníamos pensado ir a Salamanca pero al final no fuimos porque me faltaban regalos que comprar para Reyes. Entregamos nuestros regalos y el día 6 volamos a Holanda (con mi guitarra acústica que no toco desde casi la adolescencia).
  

Amistad / Friendship (II)

Aquí véis a Mark y Reine. Mark es otro compañero de Dani de UPC y también un buen amigo. Mark colecciona ¡calaveras y esqueletos! Al principio pensé que su casa sería un poco tétrica, terrorífica... pero al final se parece más a un museo arqueológico, hasta educativo. Mark y Reine son una bonita pareja y unas de esas "cosas buenas" que hemos encontrado en este país. Ellos están cuidando de nuestra Pichí y seguro que se lo va a pasar muy bien allí. Muchas gracias amigos, por la encantadora velada que pasamos con vosotros y por cuidar a nuestra gatita.

These are Mark and Reine. Mark is Daniel's colleague at UPC and they are also good friends. He collects skulls and skeletons!! At first I thought his house would be very gloomy and even terrifying but at the end it was something more close to an archeological museum, even instructive. Mark and Reine are a lovely couple and one of those "good things" that we have found in this country. They are taking care of our little Pichí and I think she is gonna be very happy there. Many thanks friends, for the lovely evening we had with you and for taking care of our kitten.

Amistad / Friendship

Me encanta esta foto porque me parece una buenísima foto para representar la amistad. Éste es Angelos, compañero de Dani en UPC y realmente creo que ellos han congeniado desde el primer día. Hay algo que me encanta de esta foto y todavía no sé qué es... su mirada tan sincera, supongo.

I really like this photo because I can see a true friendship here. This is Angelos, Daniel's co-worker at UPC and I think they got along with each other from the very first day. There's something I really like in this photo and I don't know exactly what it is yet... their sincere looks probably.

Sinterklaas

Para aquéllos que no sepan quién es Sinterklaas... es el origen de Santa Claus y parece ser que es español!!. Sinterklass y sus ayudantes "Zwarte Piet" van dando regalos a todos los que han sido buenos, y no vais a querer saber qué hacen con los que han sido malos: se los llevan a España metidos en un saco!!
Parece ser que nosotros hemos sido buenos este año porque seguimos viviendo aquí :-)
En la foto podéis ver un regalo que se encontró Dani en su mesa en el trabajo (es una especie de galleta típica holandesa gigante). Parece que este año todo el mundo ha sido muy bueno en UPC.

For those who don't know who Sinterklaas is... he is the basis for Santa Claus and it seems that he is Spanish!! (?) Sinterklaas and his Zwarte Pieten helpers give out presents to all good boys and girls, and you don't wanna know what they do with the bad ones: they get them into a sack back to Spain!!
It seems that we have been good, at least this year, because we are still living in the Netherlands :-)
In this photo you can see a present that Daniel found in his desk (kind of typical Dutch cookie giant size), it looks like everybody at UPC has been good this year.

Más visitas / More visitors

Lupe, mi antigua compañera de la Nebrija, y su marido Nacho nos han visitado por 5 días en los que lo hemos pasado realmente bien. Hay que decir que han sido unos invitados modelo. Nacho nos ha dado un repaso de términos que, ignorantes de nosotros, resulta que vienen todos en el diccionario de la real academia de la lengua (añusgar, endiñar, olivar...). Les ha encantado Amsterdam, a pesar de que Lupe ¡se hizo un esguince allí! y encima era ¡el primer día del viaje! pero bueno, no ha sido muy grave y hemos conseguido ir a ver varios pueblos que no conocíamos. Por ejemplo, un día vimos el Delta, Veere y cenamos en Delft. Al día siguiente vimos Muiden, Naarden, Edam y cenamos en Haarlem. El último día les engañamos para ir a ver Leiden en vez de Amsterdam y ¡¡¡les gustaron mucho los pannenkoeken!!!

Chicos, nos ha encantado teneros aquí y estamos deseando que volváis, incluso con vuestros pequeñines que parecen la mar de buenos. ¡Os extrañamos!

Lupe, my former colleague at Nebrija University, and her husband Nacho have visited us for 5 days in which we had a really good time. We have to admit that they have been excellent guests. Nacho has teached us a lot of new spanish terms that we didn't believe that they really are in the Official Spanish Dictionary ("añusgar", "endiñar", "olivar"...) They loved Amsterdam, although Lupe sprained her ankle there! and it was the first day of their trip! Anyway, it wasn't too serious so we were able to go to several towns that we didn't know yet. For example, on Friday we saw the Delta, Veere and we had supper in Delft. On the following day we saw Muiden, Edam, Naarden and had supper in Haarlem. The last day we convinced them to go to Leiden instead of going to Amsterdam and they loved pannenkoeken a lot!!!
Guys, we have been delighted to have you here and we hope that you can come back soon even with your children that seem so well-behaved. We miss you!

Resumen / Summary

Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde el último post, aquí un resumen de lo que ha pasado en este tiempo.

• Celebración de mi santo y cumple en España
• Universidad y assignments
• Visita a Volendam y Monnickendam con Vicka y su marido Holly (foto)
• He terminado vida laboral.
  No es ningún trauma (es hasta bueno) pero con otro viajecito a España para papeleo.
• Para celebrarlo, visita a la fiesta de Halloween en el Parque Warner con amigos y muchas cenitas y visitas al cine
• Más universidad y assignments
• "N8" - Museum nacht
  Nacht (noche) de los museos en Amsterdam. Hasta las 2 de la mañana todos los museos abiertos, a nosotros nos dio tiempo a ver 8.
• Un examen.
  Muy chungo y siguiendo mi método de estudio, o sea todo en el último momento... así que dormí 4 horas y eso fue ya todo un lujo.
• Un trabajo final.
  El martes me pasé en la universidad de 10 de la mañana a 9 de la noche y luego en casa de 10 a 4 de la madrugada. Una jornada al menos amena gracias a mis compañeros Coen y Thijs que estarán encantados de que les cite en este blog.
• Ahora ya no tengo clases hasta el lunes (ni nada que hacer). Para relajarme me he dado un baño de espuma y con velitas :-)

It's been a long time since my last post, here a summary of all the things that have happened.

• 2 celebrations in Spain: my saint's day and my birthday
• University and assignments
• A visit to Volendam and Monnickendam with Vicka and her husband Holly (photo).
• I am officialy unemployed. (I was almost praying for this).
  Not a big deal (it's a good thing!) but it required another trip to Spain to do some paperwork.
• To celebrate the dismissal: a visit to Warner Bros Park (Halloween party), having dinners with friends and lots of movies in the cinema.
• More university and more assignments.
• "N8 museum"
  Museum Nacht (night) in Amsterdam. Most of the museums were open from 7pm to 2am. We visited 8 museums.
• One exam.
  Pretty difficult and following my own method of study, meaning studying in the last minute. So I slept only 4 hours and that can be considered a luxury.
• A final report.
  On Tuesday I spent the whole day working on it at the university (from 10am to 9pm) and also working at home from 10pm to 4am. At least my group mates Coen and Thijs make the day more pleasant. They'll love to be mentioned in this blog ;-)
• From Wednesday to Sunday I won't have anything to do. This is very unusual. On Wednesday I enjoyed a very relaxing moment taking a bath with candlelights :-)

Colonia y Erasure / Köln (Cologne) and Erasure

Sólo han pasado 10 días desde el último post y han pasado muchísimas cosas. Sigo saturadísima con la Universidad pero conseguí escaparme un par de días a Colonia a un concierto. Resulta que Dani es fan de Erasure (un grupo electrónico... yo soy más de guitarra) y allá que nos fuimos aprovechando que está a menos de 300 kilómetros. Me pareció impresionante la voz de Andy Bell en directo y eso que no soy fan. Aquí os pongo una foto de la Catedral de Colonia... muy chula. Además nos hizo un tiempo buenísimo.

It's been 10 days since I wrote here and a lot of things have happened. I am still very busy with University but I managed to take a short trip to a concert in Cologne last weekend. The thing is that Daniel is an Erasure's fan (a synthpop band... I prefer the guitar sound) so we went there given that is less than 300 kilometers far from here. I have to admit that Andy Bell's voice was awesome, I was amazed even without being a complete fan. This is a photo of Cologne's Cathedral... great!. Moreover, we enjoyed a fantastic weather!

Paradojas de la vida - Life's paradoxes

Estaba yo el otro día hablando con mi padre de cuando te pasa algo "paradójico" y tal... y me dice "esto es como el principio de Peter", cuando él en realidad quería decir "la ley de Murphy" jajajaja. Mi padre siempre confunde estas cosas y te partes de la risa... para que os hagáis una idea, para él "Conan el bárbaro" es "Harold el bestia". El caso es que me dice "pero el principio de Peter también existe!!!" y yo sin creerle. Y mi querida Wikipedia le ha dado la razón.

"El principio de Peter dice que en una empresa, entidad u organización las personas que realizan bien su trabajo son promocionadas a puestos de mayor responsabilidad una y otra vez, hasta que alcanzan su nivel de incompetencia."

OLE, OLE y OLE por el principio de Peter (y por mi padre)!!! Jamás hubo algo más acertado!!!


I was talking to my father some days ago about when you face a "paradoxical" situation in life... and he told me "that's Peter's principle" when he actually meant "that's Murphy's law" hahaha. My father always confuses those kind of things and you can't help laughing out loud... for example, instead of "Conan the barbarian" he says "Harold the beast". The thing is that he claimed "but Peter's principle exists too!!!" and I didn't believe him. My beloved Wikipedia says he is totally right.

Hurray for Peter's principle (and hurray for my father!!). I never heard anything so wise!
